5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a derivative of the essential amino acid, tryptophan, which is found in high protein foods and also the African plant griffonia simplicifolia. 5-HTP is converted in the brain to the neurotransmitter serotonin, which has a role in our mood, appetite and sleep. Aids weight control. 5-Hydroxytryptophan is the precursor to serotonin, a mood and appetite regulating neurotransmitter produced within the body. It has been combined with vitamin C and vitamin B6, an important cofactor in the conversion to serotonin. Registered with the vegan society.
